Even though we work on building relationships and trust with our customers, as realtors, we still have to dress for success. When shopping and planning outfits for work always remember to go for a business casual look.

Your image and first impression with a customer are super important. It can be the deciding factor of whether they hire you or not. You don’t want your customer to take one look at you and decide they’d rather go with someone else!
If you’ve ever been stuck then keep reading for tips on nailing the business casual look.
Keep it appropriate
The first thing you want to ask yourself when getting dressed is “Is it appropriate?”.
I mean, you shouldn’t look dressed for a night out with the girls when going to show a property, right?
Ditch the mini skirt and low cut shirt and go for a nice blouse and dress pants or blazer and skirt set. Make sure your heels are an appropriate height to walk in or go with a pair of dressy flats. Men should go for a suit and tie or button-down shirt with slacks. Go with comfortable dress shoes that are the same color as your belt.
Appropriate clothing also includes those that are the least distracting. Shy away from big, bulky jewelry that are noisy or clothes that are too tight or too big. All of these could potentially distract you or your client during a showing.
Keep your audience and environment in mind

In some cases your attire may change depending on your customers and the area you’ll be showing the property.
For instance, you wouldn’t necessarily wear a suit and tie or heels when going to show a beach home. But, in order to remain business casual, flip flops or sneakers wouldn’t work either. So you may end up going with a nice blouse, skirt, and ballet flats. Men may go with a short-sleeved polo shirt with khakis.
If your customers are on the younger side you might choose to dress a little more hip and go with something trendy but still appropriate. Remember, we’re still working on building that relationship and trust factor!
Go for the full package
Keep in mind that dressing professionally does not only entail the clothes you wear. Dressing professionally includes your hair and nails too! You wouldn’t go to a formal event without your hair and nails done, would you? Keep your nails well groomed and choose a nice, sleek hairstyle when meeting clients.
Make sure your clothes are well-kept. Your attire should be free from holes, lint, and wrinkles. This can make you come off as a disorganized agent. Be mindful of when your next showing is and plan your outfits accordingly.
As real estate agents, we’re constantly on the move. If you have multiple showings with different customers or environments scheduled for the day or you simply want to be a little more comfortable while at the office, don’t be afraid to keep extra clothes in your car or at your desk. That blazer or pair of heels you throw on on your way to a showing could be the reason a client was sold on working with you!
Hopefully, these tips are helpful to you the next time you’re stuck on what to wear. Remember to be yourself and dress comfortably but also, dress like you respect your customer’s time and want to make a sale! In other words: DRESS FOR SUCCESS!
